ANOTHER VIEW OF "BLUE FIELD GODDESS #2": I love the "color field" concept which was hot for a while back in the '70s. It always seemed to me like a desperate, late-in-the-game, "Hail Mary" type attempt to rescue Art (note caps) from the messy, lowbrow clutches of the Pop/Op/Conceptual/video invaders and return it to some purist, Abstract-Expressionist realm from whence it had already fallen far by that time. But it's cool, I still like it and wanted to incorporate the feeling into some figurative works.
That's what I'm always raving about, tho - why does the doggone Art World always try to limit the human endevour of art to a single school, approach or ideology? It's like a flingin', flangin' neurosis... a neurosis driven by marketing.
