Watercolor & Ink on Rice paper scroll - June, 2006 - 72" x 28"
Artist's Assessment:
I did this to see what working with Chinese inks was like. This picture is what I call a "rover" - it's been bought and returned three times, all for reasons that had nothing to do with artistic merit. Some paintings are like that; some collectors too.
Real Chinese ink, BTW. I got it in China. I like China, the people are very friendly and have a refreshing sort of innocence about them. The family truly treats me like one of their own - except better. Chinese hospitality is truly amazing, so much so that you have to be careful about it. The first time I visited China I happened to mention that I liked a particular dish, and forever after it was served to me three times a day, no matter where I went. God bless 'em!
