Finished Oak - 36" x 7" x 7" - June, 2001 - Private Collection, San Francisco, CA
The first of the "Laughing Goddess" series, cut in spring/summer 2001, all from one biggole tree felled by neighbors remodelling their home near my studio in Los Angeles. This piece is in a private collection.
Artist's Betrayal: The first "Laughing" piece. I call them "Goddesses" because they look super human to me, above and beyond all our cares and cloudy visions.
Yes. True. And, um, also because the woman who curated my first LA show was a serious feminist and the name stuck.
